Sunday: April 13, 2014

Cooper was 19 months yesterday. It's so hard to believe. I was thinking about him today and realized he is doing what most 19 month olds do: talking non-stop, repeating everything you say, showing interest in certain things and letting you know when he doesn't like something, getting into everything, and giving lots of love to his Mommy and Daddy. The only thing he's really struggling with is walking, and he's getting there. He has made so much progress. There was a time when we wondered if we would even get to bring him home. We are so blessed to have Cooper as our son.

He has had another good week. My favorite thing to report is that he is eating much better. When in Princeton on Monday we ate at Bob Evans. He ate a pancake and loved it. So Tuesday we gave him the leftovers, he ate the entire thing. Wednesday we had breakfast for dinner and once again Cooper had a pancake. Guess what he had Thursday, Friday, and Saturday? Pancakes!!! I hated giving him the same thing every night, but when he finds something he likes that's all he wants. Tonight was the first night I was able to get him to eat something different. He had a grilled cheese, applesauce, and a chocolate chip cream cookie (not what I'd like him to eat but it was something other than pancakes!).

Cooper was fitted for new leg/feet braces on Monday. They had to cast both feet for a short while, then cut them off. He fussed, but for the most part did very well. We picked out the shoes and straps we liked and hopefully Cooper will have new braces and shoes in about 3 weeks.

Therapy was Wednesday in Roanoke. The pool was fun, but that was about it. Before therapy, Cooper had his blood checked. His counts were up from 390 to 600, still very low, but much better. We are hoping for even better results this week.

Sunday: April 6, 2014

With the exception of a cough and runny nose, Cooper has had a pretty good week. We still can't get him to eat anything. He did eat two pieces of watermelon this afternoon. He is turning down all of his favorites and everything new I'm offering him.

He had therapies in Roanoke, along with Chemo, on Wednesday. He loved the pool of course, but didn't work for the other two therapist. We could tell his Chemo was starting to take a toll on him, but he has seemed to perk up over the last day or so. Chemo was as usual, never fun, but we got through it. They actually had trouble accessing him, then he bled. We do have to keep an extra check on his temperature do to his blood levels being so low. Normal is around 2,000, for a Chemo patient 1,000 is ok. Cooper's were 390 on Wednesday. They told us that if he was to get sick would automatically be admitted to the hospital. So, Daddy and I have our bag packed and ready in case that time ever arrives.

Cooper has been talking so much lately. He will repeat everything you say. Today instead of saying "cup," he said "milk." This was new and exciting for us.

We are hoping for another good week. We have an appointment tomorrow in Princeton to be fitted for new orthotics and shoes. Cooper has a two week break from Chemo, but will still have to have his blood checked on Wednesday.

Thanks again for all of you who are saying an extra prayer for our "Trooper."
